The CDP Türkiye team wishes all its stakeholders a healthy, happy, and sustainable New Year!

For 25 years, CDP has played a pioneering role in environmental disclosure and data-driven transformation. In 2024, CDP initiated a comprehensive transformation within the reporting ecosystem and continued to advance this transformation throughout 2025. At a time when the planetary crisis is deepening and economic and political uncertainties are increasing, CDP has strengthened its leadership role by placing the power of transparency at the center of its approach and supporting companies in making “planet-positive” decisions.

This transformation process, launched in the previous year, became visibly reflected in CDP’s corporate identity as of 2025. The renewed CDP logo—with its upward line symbolizing progress, circular form representing the Earth, and balanced structure—reflects CDP’s long-term vision and its commitment to a “planet-positive” future. This visual renewal represents the continuation of CDP’s role as a bridge between scientific data and corporate decision-making processes, as well as its determination in environmental responsibility.

In line with this approach, CDP Türkiye carried out numerous activities throughout 2025 with a focus on disclosure, awareness, and stakeholder engagement. We would like to share with you a brief overview of the work carried out by CDP over the past year.

CDP Türkiye 15th Climate & Nature Conference

During the event, the CDP Türkiye Climate Change and Nature Report 2024 and the Global A Leaders identified according to CDP’s global scoring methodology were shared with the public.

The main theme of this year’s conference was defined as “Strengthening Interoperability in the Transforming Reporting Ecosystem.”

Speakers at the conference included Veronika Pountcheva, Board Member of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB); Tony Goldner, CEO of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD); Rachael Barza, Director of Climate Adaptation and Nature Finance at the EBRD; Cristina Gil White, Head of Strategic Communications at GRI; and Benan Ürgün, CDP Europe Engagement Manager.

“CDP Türkiye Climate and Nature Report 2024” Published

The year 2024 stood out as a year in which Türkiye demonstrated strong momentum in environmental transparency and leadership. While approximately 25,000 companies globally disclosed environmental data through the CDP platform, 138 companies from Türkiye reported their data. Compared to the previous year, the number of reporting companies in Türkiye increased by 21% in Climate Change, 65% in Water Security, and a remarkable 220% in Forests. This increase can largely be attributed to new regulations related to sustainability reporting standards and growing investor demand.

According to the CDP Türkiye Climate Change and Nature Report 2024, the vast majority of companies reporting to CDP from Türkiye integrate environmental risks and opportunities into senior-level governance and strategic decision-making processes. However, while this progress is largely concentrated in the area of climate change, corporate maturity remains at a moderate level in water security and more limited in other nature-related themes such as biodiversity, deforestation, and plastics.

Türkiye's Alignment with Global Reporting Standards

CDP’s 2024 questionnaire was fully aligned with the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) Climate-related Disclosures Standard (IFRS S2), while also achieving a high level of alignment with the ESRS Climate Module E1. This development has enabled companies reporting to CDP from Türkiye to become better prepared for increasing regulatory demands at the global level.

As of 2024, the alignment of responses submitted by companies in Türkiye to CDP with global reporting frameworks can be summarized as follows:

  • IFRS S2 Alignment: CDP responses from companies in Türkiye demonstrate 80% alignment with IFRS S2.

  • ESRS Alignment: Excluding sector-specific questions, CDP responses from companies in Türkiye are 68% aligned with ESRS requirements.

While these rates indicate significant progress, they also highlight the need for more comprehensive integration in critical areas such as double materiality, value chain transparency, and biodiversity.

2024 CDP Scores and A List

Türkiye’s rising performance was also strongly reflected in CDP’s 2024 global scoring results. CDP scored more than 22,700 companies worldwide this year, with only 2% earning the highest “A” score. From Türkiye, 28 companies qualified for CDP’s Global A List. Among them, 17 companies achieved Double A status by demonstrating outstanding performance in both Climate Change and Water Security. In addition, 18 companies received an “A–” score across different themes, standing out with strong environmental management maturity and performance levels.

The opening speeches of the award ceremony were delivered by Halil Hasar, Head of Climate Change at the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and Hasan Özçelik, President of the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority (KGK).

CDP Perspective on the COP30 and COP31 Roadmap

What Does COP30 Say? Strategic Messages for Companies from a CDP Perspective

COP30 significantly raised expectations for companies in areas such as adaptation finance, transition plans, just transition, and nature-rights. In particular, the political consensus to triple adaptation finance by 2035 makes adaptation investments a strategic necessity rather than an optional choice for companies.

No binding decision was reached on mitigation; however, companies with transition plans will gain advantages in market positioning, investor relations, and access to finance. Interim targets, capital allocation, and disclosure of fossil fuel-related risks are becoming more visible in CDP reporting. Regarding carbon markets, transparent reporting on the integrity, transparency, and double-counting risks of carbon credits is increasingly emphasized.

At COP30, nature-based solutions, forest protection, and strengthening the participation of Indigenous peoples have turned deforestation and land-use risks in supply chains into core issues for companies. For companies operating in Türkiye and integrated into global supply chains, these topics will increasingly appear in CDP responses as both operational and reputational risks.

Finally, the just transition dimension is being more strongly linked with social governance in CDP reporting. Employment impacts, community engagement, and stakeholder management during the transition process require companies to plan not only environmental but also societal transformation within their sustainability strategies.

Belém can be interpreted from two perspectives: on one hand, political signals for “moving into implementation” in climate action are strong; on the other hand, the tools, mechanisms, and allocation of responsibilities required to translate these signals into practice remain incomplete. In this sense, the message from Belém is an “implementation promise,” while the infrastructure needed to turn this promise into reality has yet to be completed.

Towards COP31: A Bridge-Building Diplomatic Opportunity for Türkiye

The decision to host COP31 in Antalya in 2026 and for Australia to hold the presidency places Türkiye not only as a host country but also as an active policy actor in global climate governance. This marks the beginning of a new period of increased visibility and rising expectations for companies and institutions reporting to CDP in Türkiye.

The commitments made at COP30 to scale up adaptation finance and advance the finance work program are expected to translate into concrete financial flows at COP31. Antalya will serve as a platform where measurable and financeable projects—such as adaptation projects, climate-resilient infrastructure, water security, and nature-based solutions—come to the forefront.

In this process, it is critical for companies to clarify their adaptation and transition strategies, quantify these investments in CDP reporting, and strengthen data infrastructures aligned with regulatory frameworks such as CBAM, ETS, and ISSB. The road to COP31 represents a strategic preparation period that goes beyond reporting for institutions reporting to CDP in Türkiye.

Comprehensive assessments of COP30 are available in our bulletin.
