CDP Türkiye Country Manager Mirhan Köroğlu Göğüş participated in the third and final meeting of the Private Sector Engagement Series, organized within the mandate of the COP31 High-Level Climate Champion, in cooperation with UN Global Compact Türkiye, the United Nations Türkiye and the Zero Waste Foundation, under the title “Towards COP31: The Role and Responsibilities of the Private Sector in the Climate Action Agenda.”

Held in Istanbul on 2 October 2026, the meeting addressed views and recommendations aimed at strengthening the private sector’s contribution to climate action in the lead-up to COP31. During the working sessions, two separate groups focused on biodiversity and water management and inclusive and just transition.

At the opening of the meeting, Güliz Öztürk, Chairperson of UN Global Compact Türkiye; Dr. Babatunde A. Ahonsi, UN Resident Coordinator in Türkiye; and Samed Ağırbaş, COP31 High-Level Climate Champion, delivered opening remarks. The programme also included a briefing on the COP31 Business Forum and a panel discussion.

As part of the working sessions, Mirhan Köroğlu Göğüş participated in the Biodiversity and Water Management group, contributing to discussions on biodiversity- and water-related risks faced by companies, their dependencies and impacts on nature, water management and efficiency, and the role of collective action at the basin level. The group also discussed concrete commitments, partnerships, initiatives and policy recommendations that Türkiye’s private sector could advance on biodiversity and water management in the context of COP31.

This meeting marked the final meeting of the three-part Private Sector Engagement Series carried out under the mandate of the COP31 High-Level Climate Champion. The first meeting, held on 21 May 2026, focused on climate action and sustainable finance, while the second meeting, held on 3 July 2026, addressed circular economy and innovation. Mirhan Köroğlu Göğüş also participated in the previous two meetings of the series, contributing to the respective thematic discussions.

The Private Sector Engagement Series aimed to strengthen dialogue among private sector actors, public institutions, UN entities and business organizations; identify key challenges and opportunities; and develop actionable recommendations and partnerships that could contribute to the COP31 process.
