CDP Türkiye 2024 Climate Change and Nature Results Announced

The 2024 Türkiye results and leading companies of CDP, the world’s largest environmental disclosure platform, whose Türkiye operations are carried out by Sabancı University Corporate Governance Forum, were announced on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the "CDP Türkiye 15th Climate Change & Nature Conference and Awards Ceremony."

The “CDP Türkiye 2024 Climate Change and Nature Report,” which contains the analysis and findings of CDP Türkiye for 2024, along with the CDP Global A List Leaders determined according to CDP’s Global Scoring Methodology, were shared with the public during the event.

According to the CDP Türkiye 2024 Climate Change and Nature Report, the vast majority of companies reporting to CDP from Türkiye integrate environmental risks and opportunities into their top-level governance and strategic decision-making processes. However, this progress is disproportionately concentrated on climate change topics. While a moderate level of corporate maturity is observed in the area of water security, significantly lower levels are recorded in other environmental themes such as deforestation, plastics, and biodiversity. Companies need to integrate nature-related topics more strongly into governance, strategy, and performance measurement systems.

Companies Are Taking Steps to Prepare for Future Regulations

92% of companies reporting from Türkiye have either fully mapped their value chains or initiated the process. Nearly all companies (98%) report implementing systematic processes to identify and manage environmental dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities.

80% of companies use scenario analyses for climate change, and 55% for water security. Moreover, 59% of companies expect to be subject to carbon pricing mechanisms within the next three years. In line with their climate transition strategies, 44% have already transformed their investment, expenditure, and revenue planning.

A New Era of Integrated and Standard-Aligned Environmental Disclosure

The year 2024 marked a critical turning point for environmental disclosure globally, including in Türkiye. CDP merged its Climate Change, Deforestation, and Water Security questionnaires into a single, integrated Corporate Questionnaire, fundamentally transforming its disclosure framework. This allowed companies to report using a unified set of questions that minimized repetition, promoted thematic coherence, and provided more meaningful data to stakeholders. This year, Plastics and Biodiversity were also included for the first time as stand-alone thematic areas, and a new SME Questionnaire was introduced for smaller enterprises.

This new structure not only improved reporting efficiency but also enabled stronger alignment with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS S2 – Climate-Related Disclosures), the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS E1 – Climate), and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

Rising Reporting from Türkiye: Growing Awareness Drives Global Leadership

In 2024, Türkiye stood out for its strong momentum in environmental transparency and leadership. Globally, around 25,000 companies disclosed environmental data via the CDP platform, with 138 companies reporting from Türkiye. Compared to the previous year, the number of reporting companies in Türkiye increased by 21% in the Climate Change theme, 65% in Water Security, and a remarkable 220% in Deforestation. This surge was largely driven by new regulatory requirements on sustainability reporting and growing investor expectations.

Türkiye’s rising performance was also reflected in CDP’s 2024 global scoring results. CDP rated more than 22,700 companies worldwide; only 2% of these received the highest “A” score. A total of 28 companies from Türkiye were included in CDP’s Global A List. Among them, 15 companies earned the Double A title by achieving outstanding performance in both Climate Change and Water Security. Additionally, 18 companies received “A–” scores in various themes, standing out for their environmental governance maturity and strong performance levels.

Türkiye’s Alignment with Global Reporting Standards

CDP’s 2024 questionnaire was fully aligned with the IFRS S2 Climate-Related Disclosures issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), and showed a high degree of overlap with the ESRS E1 Climate standard. This development has helped CDP-reporting companies in Türkiye become more prepared for rising global regulatory demands.

These harmonization efforts by CDP also support Türkiye’s transition to both the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the recently mandated Türkiye Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS).

As of 2024, the alignment of Türkiye-based CDP responses with global reporting frameworks can be summarized as follows:

  • IFRS S2 Alignment: CDP responses from companies in Türkiye show 80% alignment with IFRS S2. This indicates significant progress in areas such as climate governance, emissions accounting, and financial risk management.

  • ESRS Alignment: Excluding sector-specific questions, the responses show 68% alignment with ESRS requirements. While this marks notable progress, it also highlights the need for deeper integration in critical areas such as double materiality, value chain transparency, and biodiversity.

Overall, companies in Türkiye have established a solid foundation for climate reporting under IFRS S2 through CDP’s updated and standards-aligned framework. However, to meet the more comprehensive requirements of the ESRS, companies need to collect more detailed data across their value chains, manage Scope 3 emissions more effectively, and integrate nature-related topics more deeply into corporate governance structures and strategic planning.
