The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has reached a major global milestone, announcing that the number of companies worldwide with science-based emission reduction targets validated has surpassed 10,000. This achievement highlights the accelerating shift towards credible, science-aligned climate action across the private sector.

Science-based climate target setting is also expanding in Türkiye

This global momentum is also reflected in Türkiye’s business community. According to the latest SBTi data, 43 companies in Türkiye have committed to setting science-based targets, while 60 companies already have their emission reduction targets validated by the SBTi.

These figures point to a particularly strong increase in validated targets compared to the beginning of 2024. In January 2024, 40 companies in Türkiye had committed to the SBTi, and 26 companies had validated science-based targets. The most recent data shows a significant rise in the number of companies that have successfully progressed from commitment to SBTi validation.

CDP Türkiye’s 2024 climate data showed that while 77% of companies disclosing through CDP had set absolute emissions reduction targets, only 17% had their targets validated by the SBTi. The latest figures indicate that companies in Türkiye are increasingly strengthening their climate targets through science-based and independently validated frameworks.

Globally, the more than 10,000 companies with SBTi-validated targets represent over 40% of global market capitalization and are headquartered across more than 90 countries, underscoring the critical role of the private sector in accelerating the transition to a net-zero economy.
