CDP's 2024 Global Forests Report provides comprehensive data on companies' efforts to eliminate deforestation and other ecosystem transformations from their supply chains. The report addresses the progress and challenges faced by thousands of companies worldwide in preventing forest degradation.

Record Participation: 1,152 Companies' Disclosures

In 2023, there was a historic increase in the number of companies responding to CDP's forests survey. A total of 1,152 companies disclosed the measures they are taking to prevent deforestation and ecosystem transformation. Of these companies, 881 shared data related to at least one high-risk commodity (e.g., palm oil, soy, beef). This represents a significant increase compared to 2022, indicating that companies are taking their sustainability commitments more seriously.

Only 5.6% of Companies Have Fully DCF Supply Chains  

One of the most striking data points in the report is that only 64 of these companies (5.6%) reported that at least one of their commodity supply chains is fully deforestation - and conversion - free (DCF). This indicates that a significant portion of companies are still falling short in creating sustainable supply chains.

The report notes that new laws and regulations, such as the European Union's Deforestation Regulation, will push companies to ensure their supply chains are free from deforestation. It emphasizes the need for greater transparency and accelerated DCF practices to comply with these regulations.

Key Findings

• 881 companies disclosed at least one commodity supply chain, for a total of 1,498 commodity-specific disclosures across seven high-risk commodities.
• 445 disclosed on deforestation- and conversion-free progress, although only 186 provided comprehensive and high-quality information.
• 64 reported achieving at least one 100% deforestation- and conversion-free commodity supply chain.
