The CDP Türkiye team extends its best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year to all its stakeholders!
The year 2024 has proven to be a period of remarkable innovations in sustainability reporting worldwide. As a cornerstone of the reporting ecosystem, CDP has undergone a significant transformation, which it had been preparing for over many years. To briefly recap the initiatives undertaken by CDP last year, let’s delve into the highlights.
The Transformation of CDP
In 2024, CDP implemented sweeping changes aimed at streamlining companies’ sustainability reporting processes. These revisions have not only facilitated the provision of more impactful environmental data by companies but have also sought to enhance access to comparable data required by global capital markets and policymakers. The CDP questionnaire has now been aligned with the ISSB S2 Climate Standards, enabling organisations to be better equipped for mandatory reporting processes while exceeding the requirements likely to be demanded by national regulations.
The integration of the ISSB IFRS S2 standard into CDP’s questions as of 2024 ensures that the thousands of companies reporting to CDP will be well-prepared for mandatory reporting obligations. The TSRS standards draw upon IFRS S1 "General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information" and IFRS S2 "Climate-related Disclosures." Consequently, companies reporting to CDP will already comply with the Türkiye Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS) published by the Public Oversight Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority (KGK).
Transition to Nature Reporting
Nature reporting, while overlapping with other frameworks, operates with independent references to frameworks, standards, and laws. CDP continues its alignment efforts to collect the most comprehensive data on nature reporting and aims to expand its scope to encompass all planetary boundaries. It is planned to align fully with all environmental standards and frameworks by 2025.
Through the ongoing collaboration between TNFD and CDP, the 2024 questionnaire is already partially aligned with TNFD recommendations. CDP is determined to integrate all of these guidelines into its reporting platform. TNFD provides an integrated approach across all realms of nature – the atmosphere, land, oceans, and freshwater – addressing all impacts, risks, and opportunities related to nature.
The alignment between TNFD and CDP enables companies to manage environmental and nature-related risks more effectively. While CDP’s existing data collection infrastructure supports TNFD’s framework, TNFD’s nature-focused approach enhances the comprehensiveness of CDP’s reports. This partnership has the potential to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, nature-positive future.
CDP is also a founding partner of SBTN (Science-Based Targets for Nature). SBTN, emerging from the collaboration of non-profit organisations, aims to guide companies and cities in setting science-based targets specific to nature. These activities will help companies and cities create a clear roadmap to address their impacts on nature across their value chains. SBTN’s efforts are rooted in the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), which CDP also co-founded.
The Renewed CDP Platform
In 2024, CDP introduced a new interface through a cutting-edge technology platform designed to significantly enhance reporting and accelerate climate action. This innovative platform will improve the user experience, making it much easier for companies to conduct their reporting processes.
CDP Questionnaire Sets Consolidated
In 2024, the Water Security, Deforestation, and Climate Change questionnaires were consolidated into a single integrated corporate questionnaire. The reporting process has been streamlined so that the right questions are asked to the right companies, without repetition, and in the correct manner. Supply chain questions have now been embedded into the integrated corporate questionnaire.
Value Chain Mapping: Reporting companies have been encouraged to provide information about organisations within their value chains.
Taking Risk Assessment a Step Further: Risk assessments are shifting from focusing solely on business-related risks and opportunities to evaluating environmental impacts and dependencies.
All Companies Will Report on Biodiversity and Plastics: Access to market-needed data on these two crucial issues is aimed to be increased through the consolidated questionnaire. Sectors most affected by plastics will be presented with a broader set of questions.
CDP Launches a New Corporate Questionnaire for SMEs: In 2024, CDP introduced a simplified, SME-specific questionnaire that is aligned with the corporate set. This set is designed to help SMEs identify priorities, build capacity, and take action.
Financial Services Questionnaire: The Financial Services questionnaire includes bespoke questions that integrate significant environmental issues such as climate change, deforestation, and water security. It also offers integrated modules featuring questions specific to the financial services sector.
