The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent not-for-profit organization holding the largest database of corporate climate change information in the world. Some 3,000 organizations across the world’s largest economies now measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through CDP, in order to set reduction targets and make performance improvements. This data is gathered on behalf of institutional investors, purchasing organizations and government bodies, then made available for integration into business and policy decision making. Since its formation in 2000, CDP has become the gold standard for carbon disclosure methodology and process, providing essential climate change data to the global market place.

In 2011, CDP representing some 551 institutional investors, with combined assets under management in excess of $71 trillion and ensures that the financial community has access to the best available corporate climate change information to help drive investment flows towards a low carbon economy.

Since 2003, CDP has been collecting climate change information from the biggest organizations around the globe on behalf of international corporate investors. This attempt is not only an incentive for organizations to change over to low carbon emission levels, but also allows corporate investors to be aware of risks their company faces relative to the climate change, while making investment decisions.

Turkish Companies responding positively to invitations made by CDP Turkey create closer dialogue to international investors and catch the chance to see what risks and opportunities the climate change represents for their organizations, when answering questions asked by CDP.

In 2010, Sabancı University became the local partner of the Carbon Disclosure Project, accepted as worlds’ most wide-ranging environmental initiative. Implemented under the sponsorship of Akbank, CDP’s reports’ sponsorship is undertaken by Ernst&Young.

50 companies falling under the ISE-50 indices have been invited by CDP Turkey in the year of 2010. 10 of those companies and a volunteer company responded to CDP’s invitation and presented their carbon emission levels and risk management strategies to international corporate investors.

In the year of 2011 again, under the same partnership, Turkey’s largest 100 organizations falling under the ISE-100 indices, are invited by CDP to share their carbon emission levels and climate change related strategies.
